So Far – Cd Recensie – Jazzflits 302

20th August 2018 by Gabriele di Franco

“Waiting, trust, patience. You’ll find it all in “Aspetta” (Wait), the piece for which Gabriele di Franco from Lecce was awarded the price for second best composer at Jazz Comp Graz 2017. He was the only Italian finalist among 52 candidates from all over the world. A lot of his life can be found in the notes written on that pentagram. His dreams which has brought him far from home, to the city of Brussels which has welcomed him among its musicians, the passion who brought him to bet on music as his livelihood, a life with no schedules, no set hours or rules, just rigor, commitment, will. Gabriele is young and has his career in front of him, we interviewed him the day after his victory.”

“Aspetta” awarded at Jazz Comp Graz 2017

19th November 2017 by Gabriele di Franco
2017, aspetta, austria, cinzia catania, comp, gabriele di franco, graz, italia, jazz, jazzcompgraz, john hollenbeck, jörg achim keller, michael abene, premio, price, tobias hoffmann

I am pleased and proud to announce that I won the second price as best composer for Big Band Orchestra at Jazz Comp Graz 2017 with my composition “Aspetta”.

Jazz Comp Graz 2017 is a triennial competition by the Jazz department – Graz Conservatory (Kug Jazz Institute) for big band Modern Jazz Composers under the artistic direction of the renowned composer and conductor Ed Partyka.

I would like to express my gratitude to Ed Partyka, Benny Hrdina, the jury and to the Conservatory of Graz who, through this contest, give a unique opportunity in Europe to the new generation of jazz composers and arrangers. Very few are the occasions for comparison and networking for those who want to turn the passion for composition into their profession.
Regardless of the result obtained, the richest prize I bring with me is the opportunity I had to exchange and study with 4 of the greatest pro of jazz composition and 9 amazing composers.
Long Life to JazzCompGraz!
